Eye drops are drops used to treat the eyes, from the Greek kollurion. You should always only use the eye drops prescribed by your ophthalmologist, as this is not a harmless treatment.
Before instilling the eye drops in your eye, you need to take a few precautions:
- check that there are no errors in the delivery of the bottle.
- check that you're using the right bottle and that it hasn't expired
- check that it has not been open for more than 15 days (or 28 days for some)
- wash your hands thoroughly
Instillation is simple, you must:
- Tilt your head slightly backward.
- gently pull the lower eyelid
- put a drop in the conjunctival gutter
- don't hesitate to add more if you're not sure that the first one has been put on properly
After treatment, don't forget to:
- close the bottle tightly or discard the single-dose container
- protect the bottle from light
There is another technique:
- lying back
- close your eyes
- put one or two drops in the inner corner of the eye
- open your eyes so that the drop spreads over the cornea
- wait a few moments before standing up
